Five people have been arrested for possessing Rs 65,335 in counterfeit currency notes in Kathmandu.
A team of Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha on Wednesday evening arrested five individuals red-handed while printing fake currency notes in the room belonging to Samaraj Thapamagar in Budhanilakantha Municipality-11, Kapan.
Among those arrested are Goma Shrestha, 56, and Pushpa Thapamagar, 41, of Indrawati Rural Municipality-8; Chiranjibi Joti, 19, and Sujan Joti, 23, of Helambu Rural Municipality-2, in Sindhupalchowk.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Kumar Basnet, Spokesperson at Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Shrestha was detained while purchasing commodities with bogus money notes in Gokarneswor Municipality-7, Daksindhoka.
Police squad detained four individuals for their suspected involvement in the fake currency scheme after receiving information from Shrestha during the inquiry, added SP Basnet.
The police also seized a color printer, paper, paper cutter, mobile phone, and other gear needed to make replica money notes.
