The 10th General Convention of CPN-UML was held in Chitwan today. Popular political figures and party members were present in the convention. As informed by UML Deputy Chief of Publicity Department Surya Thapa that 2,175 delegates would participate in the General Convention.
Earlier, 1,199 delegates from across the country had been nominated on Kartik-27 for the election. Heavy vehicles were banned from operating on the Butwal-Narayangadh section road for the convenience of the upcoming 10th National General Convention of UML.
A meeting held by security chiefs of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) and Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta West) on Wednesday had decided to stop heavy vehicles movement from 6pm Thursday to Friday. Chief District Officer of West Nawalparasi, Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni said that the vehicles were stopped considering the regular traffic jams that happened in the narrow section of Daunne area. 80,000 people from Lumbini province alone participated in the inauguration program.
Private vehicles were provisioned to pass through Pokhara. There was no obstruction in passage of the essential and emergency service vehicles. UML had stated to have prepared to unload 500,000 people in the inauguration program.
Prime Minister and chairman of Nepali Congress Party, Sher Bahadur Deuba also participated in the gathering. Deuba arrived just before noon via helicopter after his meeting with several Nepal Bar Association personnel regarding misconduct of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Jabara.
Prime Minister addressed the inaugural function of the 10th General Convention of CPN-UML on Friday. “Cooperation and conversation is needed between the parties on major issues relating to our country and its people”, he said. He added that he intended to find a solution to all political problems through discussion and understanding.
CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli also spoke in the convention. He said that UML will go among the people to bring majority for building a prosperous country. Speaking at the inaugural session of the General Convention on the banks of Narayani River, he said that the UML would go to the polls to get a majority.
Oli said that a single majority of the UML was necessary for the protection of prosperity, sovereignty, democracy and constitution in the country and urged the leaders and cadres of other parties to join UML to move the country forward.
Chairman Oli said that the closed session of the General Convention would be held in a special exemplary and joyous manner with high level of consensus, unity and democratic practice. He urged the leaders and cadres to move forward on the basis of nation building as the task of the General Convention is to elect a leadership that can lead the UML and the country for the next five years.
CPN-Maoist Center leader Lilamani Pokhrel said that unity among communists is essential. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 10th National General Convention, Pokharel said that there should be no differences in national independence and development. “Unity and polarization are indispensable for bringing the communist movement to the pinnacle of success,” he said, “It is difficult to achieve prosperity by traveling alone,” he added. Stating that unity, struggle and cooperation are ongoing processes, Pokhrel said that cooperation was needed despite differences and bitterness among the Communist Party.
Top leaders of various parties participating in the 10th National General Convention of the CPN-UML, which started today on the banks of Narayani River in Bharatpur of Chitwan, have extended best wishes.
After the inauguration of the 10th National General Convention, the process of sending good wishes by the leaders of various national parties represented in the Federal Parliament started. The congratulatory program started after the party president and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the special forum at Narayani Bank.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa, Democratic Socialist Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur and others have already addressed the rally. Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Chairman Deuba participated in the meeting as a special guest. Earlier, Oli inaugurated the convention by waving the national flag, the party’s election symbol (Surya) and the Communist Party’s hammer and sickle flag. Before the inauguration, ethnic cultural art, tunes and songs were performed. Public participation in the assembly is increasing from different places.
