Elections are being held today for the Speaker’s post in Sudurpaschim Province. As none of the candidates could win the majority in yesterday’s election, the election will be held again today.
Bhim Bahadur Bhandari from the Maoist Center and Man Bahadur Rawal from the Nepali Congress are the candidates for the speakership. Yesterday, Bhandari got 26 votes and Rawal got 23 votes. In the 53-member provincial assembly, 27 votes are required to elect the speaker.
Bhandari could not be elected as Speaker yesterday because the vote of one of the MPs from the ruling party was invalid. Elections will be held at 11 am today after no one got 27 votes yesterday.
