The election for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives is being held (today) on Thursday. Two candidates from the ruling party and the opposition alliance have been nominated for the post of speaker.
Devraj Ghimire of CPN-UML has registered his nomination from the ruling coalition. Similarly, Congress leader Ishwaridevi Neupane has registered her nomination from the opposition alliance.
The House of Representatives will hold a meeting for the election of the Speaker at 11 am. The current ruling coalition consists of Maoists, UML, Rashtriya Swatantra Party, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Janmat Party.
There are three independent MPs in the parliament. Senior member Pashupatishamsher Jabara, who is in the role of Speaker, will not vote. At least 138 votes of members will be required to be elected Speaker in the 275-member House of Representatives.
