CPN-UML’s Ghimire elected HoR Speaker

Devraj Ghimire of CPN-UML has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ghimire was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament meeting held today on Thursday.

In the division of votes, 167 votes fell in favor of Ghimireka. One hundred votes have fallen against him. One such MP was neutral. Two hundred and sixty-eight MPs were present in the two hundred and seventy-five member assembly today.

Senior member Pashupatishamsher Jabara, who presided over the meeting, announced that Ghimire had been elected as the speaker. UML Vice President Subash Chandra Nemwang proposed Ghimire, the candidate of CPN-UML from the power coalition, as the Speaker. Similarly, his supporters included Hitraj Pandey of CPN-Maoist Center, Rajendra Lingden of RPP and Ravi Lamichhane of National Independent Party.

Ishwaridevi Neupane from Nepali Congress was competing for Speaker. Congress General Minister Bishwa Prakash Sharma was among his proponents and Prakash Jwala of CPN United Socialist was among his supporters. After being elected Speaker, Ghimire said that he will represent the Assembly in the right way. He promised to learn from the past and move forward by making the parliament agile.
