CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli mentioned that his party will run for the presidency and claimed that there should be a national consensus on that. He says that there is an agreement between the ruling parties to pick a presidential candidate from their party.
On Thursday, President Oli, while answering the media’s questions at the Federal Parliament building complex, responded that he would tell later about the presidential candidate to be nominated by his party. He said,’there must be a national consensus on the president. CPN-UML picks candidates. That is our agreement.’
President Oli said that it is an inauspicious sign to see the government tied to the status quo. Nepali Congress General Minister Bishwa Prakash Sharma commented that Oli was trying to keep Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda in a cage by becoming the coordinator of a high-level political mechanism. Oli said that Sharma’s expression was an ominous sign.
