Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has said the role of local governments was significant in implementation of federalism.Inaugurating the first Sub-Metropolis National Conference organised by Butwal sub-metropolitan city at Butwal today, Province Chief Sherchan stressed that local governments should be strong in order to strengthen federalism.
He pointed out that even in local governments, condition and problems of metropolis, sub-metropolis and rural municipality are different, adding, ‘It is necessary to discuss about the distribution of means and resources in economic and social terms.’
Mentioning that coordination and collaboration was necessary among federal, province and local governments for implementation of federalism, the Province Chief shared that attention should be paid in formulation of necessary laws for the same.
Similarly, Coordinator of Forum of Metropolitan Cities and Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, Dhanraj Acharya, stressed that as the geographical territory, economic and social condition of metropolis, sub-metropolis and municipalities and rural municipalities is different, economic resources should be distributed accordingly.
Likewise, General-Secretary of Municipal Association of Nepal and Mayor of Ghorahi sub-metropolis, Narulal Chaudhary, said plans of federal, province and local governments are repeated and complexities surfaces in course of implement such plans and projects should be resolved.
Joint-Treasurer of the Municipal Association of Nepal and Mayor of Hetauda sub-metropolis, Mina Kumari Lama, expressed the view that local governments should be made successful in order to make federalism a success. Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chief Administrative Officers and experts of sub-metropolitan cities across the country are participating in the Conference.
