The case filed by billionaire, Nepali Congress leader and HoR member Vinod Chaudhary against Janaastha Weekly and Janaastha.com has been dismissed. The joint bench of Mr. Subas Paudel and Mr. Ramesh Dhakal has ordered that the injunction and contempt cases filed in the High Court, Patan, be dismissed and the claim not filed respectively.
The bench gave the order in the case of injunction filed on 7th Ashoj and contempt case filed on 28th of the same month. Advocates Madhav Kumar Basnet, Badriprasad Bhusal, Anantaraj Luintel and Bhakti Ghimire argued the case on behalf of public faith, and the country’s press freedom and judicial battle has been won. Advocates Luintel and Ghimire argued as representatives of the Press Council and representatives of the Federation of Journalists, respectively.
In the injunction case filed by Chaudhary, the petitioner and the petitioner-affiliated companies/individuals had requested an order in the name of the opponent not to publish any news, publish or broadcast on social networks and media in order to harm the professional reputation of the petitioner. In the petition, he claimed that all the news published by Jan Aastha were false and misleading.
Similarly, in the contempt case filed on Ashoj 27th, Chaudhary demanded that an appropriate injunction be issued in the name of the opponents, asking them not to publish any news, news or material related to the petitioner until the injunction and defamation case is resolved.
