Koshi naming dispute: Protests staged again in Biratnagar

Biratnagar, March 28: Biratnagar became tense today (Tuesday) when there was a clash between the group opposing the naming of Koshi province and the police. Biratnagar became tense when protestors and the police clashed with the protestors who demanded that the province be named Koshi on the basis of identity.

The police used tear gas and lathicharge to control the demonstration of the joint committee of various pro-identification organizations. Protesters also threw stones at the police. The agitation became more intense after Padam Limbu, who was injured during the protest on 5th Chait, died during treatment on 10th Chait.

The protesters were chased by the police while they were going towards the Chief Minister’s office. During that, there was a clash between the police and the protestors. One policeman was injured by a stone thrown by the protestors. The police fired 5 rounds of tear gas on the protestors. A water fountain has also been installed.

At least 24 people have been injured including 15 police personnel following a clash during a demonstration organised against the naming of the Koshi Province in Biratnagar.
