Can govt implement the agreement with loan-shark victims ?

Kathmandu, April2 :  With the five-point agreement with the government, the loan-shark victims  have withdrawn from the agitation program. According to analysts, we have to wait and see whether the government has given them assurance only on paper or if it will actually be implemented. After reaching an agreement on 5 points with the government, the meter badge victims suspended their protest. The victims have fully trusted in this agreement.

loan-shark victims  have complained that people who are illiterate, poor and in difficult financial situations collect loans at high interest rates, make extortion documents that are more than the actual transaction, take possession of the property of the borrowers and exploit them in various ways, so victims have agreed to address the problems of the victims. It is written in the first point of the agreement to recommend to the government of Nepal to form a commission according to the Investigation Commission Act, 2026 from the first meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The government is preparing to have the Inspector General of Nepal Police and the Attorney General as members in the commission, which will be headed by a former judge or commissioner, and the structure of the commission will be in all districts. It has also been agreed to form a district-level coordination and facilitation committee under the coordination of the Chief District Officer to deal with the regular complaints of loan-shark victims .

With the formation of the commission, the protest will be withdrawn and the protest has now been suspended, according to the victims’ struggle committee. A team came to Kathmandu on foot from the district of Madhesh to demonstrate that they had to lose their property due to the high interest loan taken from the moneylender in the village.
