UML observes 24th death anniversary of former Chair Adhikari

Kazthmandu, April 26: The 24th death anniversary of CPN (UML) former Chairperson and former Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari was observed today by organising a programme at Sanepa of Lalitpur. The Manmohan Memorial Foundation, Sanepa organised the event. Party leaders gathered to commemorate the memorial day of the veteran leader paid tributes to him.

UML Chair KP Sharma Oli wreathed the statue of the late Adhikari. Addressing the gathering, UML senior Vice Chair and Foundation Chair Ishwor Pokhrel insisted on following the footsteps of Adhikari and promoting his ideologies and thoughts. ‘It would be a true tribute to the late leader if we could contribute for achieving political stability and promoting national sovereignty and independence,’ he said.

Adhikari was the first Communist Prime Minister of Nepal. He passed away on April 26, 1999 at the age of 78 following a heart attack in course of the election publicity campaign. He was appointed the Chair of CPN (UML) formed following the unification between the then CPN (ML) and CPN (Marxist) in 2047 BS. As no political parties could secure a clear majority during the 1994 mid-term election, he as the Chair of the largest party became the 31st Prime Minister of Nepal (1994-1995)
