Kathmandu, May 1 : Employees of Herbs Production and Processing Company Limited (HPPCL) have demanded the company ensure their involvement in the Social Security Fund (SSF) when the working community across the globe observe the 138th May Day today. According to Company’s trade union leader Deependra Bahadur Chhetri, workers working here for over 20 years have not yet got an appointment letter.
“Our demands are appointment letters for workers, their involvement in the SSF, and the guarantee of festival allowance and sick leave,” he said, adding that Company buildings located at different parts of the country remained totally unused. The government entity established in 2038 BS partially paid its employees during COVID-19 crisis. ‘Employees were given just a fifty percent of their regular remuneration,’ he said. Though few years ago, the management and workers reached an agreement about providing facilities as per the Labour Act,
2074 BS (2017), the agreement is yet to be implemented. HPPCL general manager Sunita Yadav said the management was positive about addressing genuine demands of workers. “I am effortful to address the workers issues raised for long,” she said, hoping for a way out soon.
