Kabul, May 8 :Afghan security forces have discovered a weapon cache in northern Sari Pul province and seized a variety of arms and ammunition, said a statement of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI). Acting on a tip-off, the GDI personnel launched operations in Sari Pul province on Saturday and discovered several pieces of weapons including two mortars and thousands of bullets, mines including 45 mortars shells, the statement added.
The statement didn’t say if anyone has been arrested.Afghan security forces have also discovered and seized weapon caches including 40 pieces of assault rifles in the southern Uruzgan and eastern Kunar provinces over the past couple of days. In similar operations, the security forces also discovered a weapon cache in Police District 17 of the capital Kabul last week.
Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs and according to officials, the establishment has collected thousands of pieces of light and heavy weapons including tanks and armored vehicles over the past 18 months.
