Kathmandu, May 24: Preparations are underway to add 12 to 14 floors to the under-construction Kathmandu observation tower ‘View Tower’. The work of the tower being built in the old bus park has been completed so far.
Pulchok Engineering Campus has studied and submitted the report to Kathmandu Metropolitan City for technical examination regarding the construction of the 12th floor. According to the report, the work has been done in accordance with the construction standards and more floors can be added, so the technical team of Kampa has studied the report and is preparing to give permission for the addition of floors. The tower was supposed to be 29 floors before the 2072 earthquake, but after the earthquake, the work was extended to 12 floors.
Mahesh Kafle, Head of Kampa Public Private Partnership Unit, informed that preparations are being made to increase the 12 floors to 24 to 26 floors. According to him, Kampa’s technical team will decide how many floors to add after studying the report. The company currently constructing the tower should submit an application to Kampa for the addition of floors. Accordingly, Kampa will complete the legal process and approve the map for the addition of floors.
According to Chief Kafle, there was a plan to build 29 floors before the earthquake, but after the earthquake, the construction work has proceeded accordingly, saying that the floors will be reduced to 12. “The Pulchok campus has studied the construction of the structure, how the construction materials have been used, whether the floor can be added or not,” Kafle said. The work of pillar construction has started from Jaleshwar, Swachhand and Bikoi from July 2073.
An agreement was signed between Kampa and Jaleshwar, Swachhand and Bikoi companies on February 22, 2071 for the construction of the pillar. According to the agreement, it is mentioned that within five years, the company can build a building with its own investment and operate it for 30 years. 23 ropani five annas land has been allocated for the pillar. It is said that the view tower will reflect Nepali art and culture.
Pillars will be built on 40 percent of the total area, while 60 percent will be kept vacant. The construction work has been progressed according to the plan to keep attractive gardens, living space and various entertainment facilities on 60 percent of the land. The tower will have two floors of underground parking. In which 400 vehicles will be parked. There will be motorcycle parking on the ground floor. The tower will have a state-of-the-art cinema hall. The tower will have banks and financial institutions, healthcare facilities, restaurants and libraries.
The work of parking private vehicles has been started in the basement of the under-construction View Tower from last May 22. At present, four-wheeled small vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles are kept at that place. Although free parking will be arranged at the beginning, it is said that after a few days, the management of the parking will be arranged by charging a fee with additional management.
According to the head of the convoy, the parking lot for 400 small vehicles and 1000 motorcycles has been operational since last Baisakh 22. It is said that the parking lot has been opened before the construction work has been completely completed as there is a lot of parking problem at present. For the construction of the tower, the bus park was shifted to an open platform from July 2072.
Although the work of construction of the view tower will be completed in five years and the vehicles will be moved more systematically from the place where the bus park was located, the construction work of the tower has not been completed yet. Vehicles running on 17 different routes of Kathmandu Valley used to travel from that place.
