Kathmandu, May 24: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RRP) has demanded the formation of a parliamentary special investigation committee over the fake Bhutanese refugee scam. On the commencement of a session of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane said the ongoing investigations against the scam were not likely to yield results, satisfying the public.
‘The parliament is required to form a special probe committee to deal with the issue,’ he said adding that corruption was the concern of the party since its establishment.’We doubt the intentions of frequent sittings among three political parties since the scam came to light. Now many political parties have been alleged of having roles in the scam. The role of State bodies including that those responsible for preventing corruption is questionable. Under all these circumstances, we are not convinced that the ongoing investigations against the scam would be concluded impartially. So, it is a must to handle the case by a specific parliamentary committee.’
The reports about the alleged money game in the Prime Minister’s Office Baluwatar, ministers’ quarters and the Singha Durbar in regard with scam provided a ground for distrusting the State bodies, according to the lawmaker who wanted that all accused and suspected in the case be brought under the purview of law. He described the scam a case capable of defaming Nepal and Nepalis internationally.
