Three people, including the former vice-chancellor of BP found guilty of misappropriation

Dharan : Three former officials, including the former vice-chancellor of Dharan’s BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, have been found guilty of irregularities in the purchase of health equipment. The Special Court found BPKIHS’s former vice-chancellor Balabhadra Prasad Das, former registrar Nand Kumar Thapa, and former director Arvind Kumar Sinha guilty of corruption.

The special court decided to sentence them to one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 each. The court held that they committed corruption in the purchase of health equipment. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against 8 people including the then Vice-Chancellor Das on July 16, 2019.

Apart from these three people, equipment suppliers Chetan Agarwal and Umesh Agarwal, Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha, Head of Accounts Dineshraj Dahal, and Deputy Manager Amil Srivastava have been acquitted. The CIAA had demanded 40.8 million rupees from Das, 37.5 million rupees from hospital director Sinha, 19.6 million rupees from then-registrar Thapa, and 5.6 million rupees from registrar Shrestha.
