Kathmandu: Tashi Lama was unanimously elected the General-Secretary of the International Tamang Council. Tamang was elected to the post at the recommendation of Nepal Tamang Ghedung. The 5th convention of the Council held in Thailand decided to take forward Council’s work by making newly elected General-Secretary as an executive, informed Kumar Ghising, Federal Deputy Chairperson of the Nepal Tamang Ghedung.
The convention had representatives of 17 member organizations, it was shared. Newly elected General-Secretary Lama pledged to emphasize language, culture, friendly ties, economic and cultural exchanges. Nine thematic committees such as language, culture and history will be led by the thematic experts.
The Council, established 21 years ago, has Nepal, India, Bhutan, Burma and Thailand as the permanent members while the USA, Japan, Belgium, the UK, Portugal and Australia are the national members.
