‘Bharatki’ in Adipurush film removed before Censor Board permission granted permission for its release : MoCIT

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) clarified regarding the removal of word “Bharatki” from the Hindi film-Adipurush- prior to the permission from the Censor Board of Nepal for its release in Nepal.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, the Ministry further clarified that it had directed to remove the word “Bharatki” from the film Adipurush through the Censor Board of Nepal before the Board granted the permission for its release.

The Ministry said that its serious attention had been drawn towards objections expressed through various media in the context regarding the wording “Bharatki”(that which belonged to Bharat country) in the dialogue where Janaki, the national luminary of Nepal, was presented as the daughter of India in the Hindi film Adipurush.

“When the team of Central Film Screening Committee examined the content of the film on June 15, the wording “Bharatki” included in the dialogue that portrayed as a daughter of India was asked to be removed at first. Only after that, Censor Board of Nepal granted permission for the public screening of the film,” read the stated issued by Bishal Sapkota, Assistant Spokesperson of the MoCIT.

According to the statement, the recommendation for the screening of the film Adipurush was received by the Central Film Screening Committee on June 12 and the film was allowed to be shown in the cinema halls in accordance with the provisions of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act-2026 BS and Regulation related to it.
