Health ministry urges all to continue anti-dengue drive

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged all sides concerned to continue the anti-dengue drive in the wake of rising cases of dengue. The spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, urged all employees to involve in the sanitation campaign daily to drive away mosquitoes that cause dengue.

He stressed involving employment in sanitation activities around offices. The mosquitoes should be destroyed with the sanitation drive, he said, adding that all employees in each ministry could participate in this campaign at 10:30 am every day.

Similarly, he requested the common public, private sector and stakeholders to maintain a similar drive. Nepal recorded its first case of dengue in 2004. So far since January early this year, 1337 people suffered from dengue fever and a person lost life to it.

The Health Ministry requested all to use net while sleeping, wear full sleeve clothes and set up net on windows and doors at home. Moreover, Dr Gokarna Dahal, from the Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control Division of the Ministry, said the local levels and common public were urged again to intensify the campaign against dengue.
