Kathmandu: The 45th Memorial Day of Pushpa Lal Shrestha, the founding general secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), is being observed today by organizing various programs across the country. The CPN was established under the leadership of Pushpa Lal in 1949. Late Pushpa Lal is credited with launching the communist movement for the first time in Nepali history.
After the steps of King Mahendra in 2017, he lived an underground exile. The government has established a national award in honor of Pushpalal.In memory of Pushpalal today, Pushpalal Memorial Foundation has organized a special program at Pushpalal Memorial Udyan located in Kirtipur Municipality-4.
Shrestha, who was born on 15 Asar 1981 B.S. in Bhangeri, Ramechhap, died on 7 Saun 2035 B.S.at Govindavallabh Pant Hospital in India.Pushpalal established Nepal Communist Party in Shyam Bazar, Kolkata, India on 10th Baisakh, 2006 with the aim of establishing rights for the people. Nepal Communist Party was established with the activism of Pushpalal, Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, Niranjan Gobind Vaidya, Narayan Vilas Joshi and Motidevi Shrestha.
Before establishing the CPN, he formed the Nepali Democratic Union in 1998 along with Prem Bahadur Kansakar, Shambhuram Shrestha, Surya Bahadur Bhardwaj and Ram Rajasa. Almost all the communist parties of Nepal have reverence for Pushpalal. Even though he had to live a life of harsh exile in his personal life, live in poverty and die in difficult conditions, he never let his loyalty to the nation and people weaken. Pushpalal, who was also the swcond brother of Shaheed Gangalal Shrestha, became active in the anti-Ranashahi movement at the age of 15 after his brother was killed.
