Kathmandu: The writ petition filed in the Supreme Court stating that the formation of the Koshi state government is unconstitutional is being heard today. The hearing in the full bench of judges Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Til Prasad Shrestha, which has been ongoing since Tuesday, was put on hold for today after it was not completed yesterday.
Even though the final debate in the joint bench was over yesterday, due to the lack of time to study for the writing of the judgment, the verdict is likely to come today as it has been kept in abeyance for today. The Supreme Court will give a decision on whether the signing of the Speaker of the State Assembly on the formation of the Koshi government is constitutional or unconstitutional.
On Asar 22, the incumbent Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court stating that the Chief Minister appointment process in Koshi Province was unconstitutional. After the formation of the Uddhav Thapa-led government with the signature of Baburam Gautam, the Speaker of Koshi Province, outgoing Chief Minister Hikmat Karki filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on June 22 stating that the process was unconstitutional.
