Biratnagar, August 01: Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province . He has appointed as chief minister after a great tug-of-war between political parties’ leaders after the decision of the Supreme Court. Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung has appointed Thapa as Chief Minister.
At 5:30 pm on Tuesday evening, Thapa submitted a claim to the provincial chief saying that 47 members of the provincial assembly supported him. He has been supported by the state assembly members of Congress, Maoist Center, United Samajbadi Party and Janata Samajbadi Party.
Earlier, Thapa was appointed as the Chief Minister using the signature of the Speaker. After that, Hikmat Kumar Karki, the leader of the UML parliamentary party, filed a case in the Supreme Court saying that the move was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court had suspended the government led by Thapa.
