Kathmandu: Senior–most justice Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha has taken over the leadership of the Judiciary as the permanent Chief Justice of the Supreme Court since Sunday. After the Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki retired from service on 20th of Saun, he took over the leadership.
During the reinstatement, Acting Chief Justice Shrestha instructed to work in an efficient manner based on the constitution and laws, looking at the interests of the service users. He said that he will discuss with the judges about the steps to be taken in the future to resolve the case quickly so that the service users can feel it.
Acting Chief Justice Shrestha urged that the entire group should work for the reform of the judiciary and all the judges and the administration should cooperate for that. The meeting of the Constitutional Council has already recommended Shrestha for appointment as the 31st Chief Justice of Nepal.
Although the Parliamentary Hearing Committee approved Shrestha’s name, there is a constitutional provision for the President to appoint the Chief Justice. It seems that the process from hearing to appointment will take some time. Shrestha’s tenure will last until Ashoj 2081. It has been expressed the belief that the works stopped in the court will be started during the tenure of the judicial service officer from district judge, high court judge to Supreme Court judge.
