PM Dahal holding talks with major parties to end Parliament impasse

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” is holding a discussion with leaders from prominent political parties to address the parliamentary impasse today as well. The discussion with these national parties is scheduled for today at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar.

The all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Dahal on Sunday discussed several options for removing the deadlock in the parliament. However, it could not reach an agreement and the meeting has been postponed for today.

The main opposition party, CPN-UML, however, reiterated its call for forming a high-level investigation committee to probe the gold smuggling scam. According to Prime Minister’s press advisor, Govinda Acharya, like Sunday, PM Dahal aims to engage in dialogue with the foremost leaders of nationally recognized parties as part of an effort to overcome the current parliamentary obstruction.

In the preceding election, the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Janamat Party successfully met the criteria and achieved national party status. The primary opposition party, CPN-UML, has been stalling parliamentary proceedings, urging the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate a case of gold smuggling.

Prime Minister Dahal has proactively taken steps to alleviate the impasse within the Parliament. On Sunday, Prime Minister Dahal urged the opposition parties to have faith in the investigation being carried out by Nepal Police and it would not be in favour of the country and the people obstructing the parliament over this issue.
