Rulers must have honesty to maintain good governance, development and prosperity: Former Chief Justice Karki

Kathmandu, Sept 28:  Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has stressed the need for honesty and integrity with the ruling leaders to maintain good governance, development and prosperity in the country. She said this while inaugurating a non-governmental organization named ‘Himalaya Matribhumi Foundation’ in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Targeting the leaders in power, former Chief Justice Karki said, ‘At present, leaders are allowed to wear garlands around their necks, 10-20 garlands are shown around their necks.’ They don’t care about what their assessment will be in history, what they will be and how people will evaluate them, she said.

Former Chief Justice Karki  said she was disgusted by the political situation in the country. She said that she does not listen to the news related to the country’s politics. She said that there is nothing in the country except Baluwatar scandal and gold scandal etc.

Karki said those in power laugh and dance on their own. She also said that the people are suffering, but the leaders are enjoying themselves. The intellectuals are criticizing the style of governance, but the leaders are praising themselves, she said.

Former Chief Justice Karki said, ‘Leaders are heard saying as much as they come in their mouths and curses . On the other hand, the people are dissatisfied with the actions of the rulers’. She said she saw the main problem of how to adjust in the midst of such a difficult situation. She said that the leaders were united even when the people protested. Stating that most of the people are aware of politics, she claimed that there is a lack of development.

Focusing on the concept paper on ‘National Campaign for Good Governance, Development and Prosperity 2080’ of The Himalayan Matribhumi Foundation, she said there was nothing she should disagree with in the concept paper. She said she was confident that the organisation would work for good governance, development and prosperity as the issues mentioned in the concept paper were similar to the situation in the country.

Former Secretary to the Government of Nepal Sagar Prasad Dhital, former Ambassador Mahesh Dahal, FNJ President Bipul Pokharel, PABSON Chairman DK Dhungana, N-PABSON Co-Chair Subash Neupane, political analysts Mumaram Khanal, Dinesh Subedi and others spoke on the occasion.

Speakers at the program said that the foundation’s campaign would contribute to maintain good governance, development and prosperity in the country. Sunil Bajgai Presented the concept paper. Sunil Bajgai presented a concept paper on the occasion. The programme was presided over by Tikaram Puri, chairman of Himalaya Matribhumi Foundation.
