Kathmandu: Durga Prasai, the driving force behind the “Rashtra Bachau Maha Abhiyan” campaign, has quashed speculations of a scheduled shutdown in Kathmandu today (Friday). “We have not called for the closure of Kathmandu today,” Prasai stated, refuting reports of a Kathmandu bandha on Friday.
He clarified, “We have not called for any strike. People will voluntarily join the peaceful protest to be held in Tinkune in Kathmandu.”Instead, the campaign has opted for a peaceful demonstration in Tinkune, Kathmandu, commencing today.
Prasai emphasized that a continuous program is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu and encouraged residents to attend the program after closing their shops, assuring them that no shutdown program has been devised.
It is worth noting that the first day of the campaign witnessed a demonstration in Balkhu, where the campaign declared their intention to continue protests in Tinkune.
A close associate of Prasai stated that the Tinkune demonstration is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. on Friday. Simultaneously, the campaign led by Prasai asserted that their Balkhu protest on Thursday was infiltrated, leading to clashes and subsequent police repression.
As many as 26 individuals from the campaign sustained injuries. “We sensed an intrusion in our demonstration. The police repression went beyond acceptable limits,” he stated.
