Kathmandu, Dec 15: Nepali orthopedic surgeon and philanthropic activist Prof Dr Govinda KC is going to start Satyagraha (fast-unto-death) from today.
On Friday, Dr KC said that the government did not implement the agreements made several times in the past. KC said in a press conference that he is going to start a three-day fast-unto-death from 5PM on Friday.
His demands include increasing the capacity of government hospitals in line with previous agreements and ensuring the availability of prescription of free medicines.
Dr KC is urging immediate completion of the transitional justice process, the operation of the Science University in Geta, the establishment of at least one government medical college in each province as mandated by the Medical Education Act, and the opening of government medical colleges in Ilam, Udaipur, and Dadeldhurara as previously agreed.
Other demands include initiating programs on nursing and other health-related subjects in government hospitals with a capacity of more than 100 beds and implementing legal arrangements for appointing officials in universities and institutions based on defined criteria.
