Journalist Death Toll in Gaza Reaches 99

Gaja, 24 Dec: The number of journalists killed by Israeli forces since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7 has risen to 99, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.Al-Aqsa TV’s Muhammad Khalifa is the latest journalist to be killed in the war.

Israeli forces bombed his family’s home in the Nuseirat refugee camp, also killing his wife and three children according to the media office. The Israeli Occupation Forces have continued escalating their violence in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, killing more than 20,000 people and injuring over 50,000 others.

The occupation forces have also targeted journalists throughout their war. On October 25, an Israeli airstrike killed the family of Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief Wael Al-Dahdouh. In December, an Israeli missile also injured Al-Dahdouh himself, with his Al Jazeera colleague Samer Abu Daqqa also losing his life in the attack.

Notably, Israeli forces arrested Al-Araby Al-Jadeed correspondent Diaa Al-Kahlout, along with two of his brothers. The journalist was also stripped to his underwear and handcuffed along with dozens of other Palestinian men at the beginning of December. On Friday, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) filed a second complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the deaths of the Palestinian journalists murdered by the Israeli forces.

“RSF has reasonable grounds to believe that the journalists named in this complaint were the victims of attacks amounting to war crimes. According to the information collected by RSF, these journalists may have been deliberately targeted as journalists,” the organization said in a statement. “It is for this reason that RSF is describing these deaths as intentional homicides of civilians.”
