Dang: At least 12 people were killed when a bus fell off a bridge over rapti river at Bhalubang of Rapti rural municipality-1 in Dang district. 17 people were injured. The bus (Bhe 1 Kha 3912) en route to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj in Banke fell into the Rapti River from the bridge at around 10.30 pm on Friday.
According to Rapti rural municipality chair Prakash Bista, 12 people, including a woman and 11 men, were killed in the accident. Most of them died after being run over by buses. The injured have been sent to Butwal and Nepalgunj for treatment.
The names and addresses of the four people who died in the accident are yet to be ascertained, police said. Many of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Kusum Basnet, 60, of Nepalgunj, Saurab Bista, 30, of Hetauda, Makwanpur, Mun Bahadur Rawat, 40, of Chandnath-9, Jumla, Ram Baran Harijan, 30, of Banke, Deepak Dangi, 25, of Rukum Gotamkot-9, Tarakant Pandey, 65, of Chandragiri Municipality-15, Kathmandu, Yogendra Ram, 67, of East Champatan Malahi, India, and Atik, Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to Area Police Office, Bhaluwang Police Inspector Ujjwal Singh, all the 12 bodies have been kept at Lamahi Hospital for post-mortem. Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and locals have been deployed at the site of the incident. The bus fell into the Rapti River on the right side of the bridge. This bridge over rapti river connects Dang and Arghakhanchi districts.
