Kathmandu, Jan 8: Captain Rohit Kumar Poudel starred in Nepal’s thrilling Seven-run victory over Canada in the first match of the one-day series. Chasing the target of 225 runs set by Nepal in the match played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday, Canada scored only 217 runs for the loss of all wickets in 47.5 overs.
At one time, Canada was in a comfortable position of 174-4. After that, Nepal scored 43 runs and lost six wickets to win the match by seven runs. Arif Sheikh scored 38 runs. Sompal Kami was dismissed for 27 runs.

From 35-2, the duo shared a 79-run partnership to take control of Canada’s innings.However, the batters that followed failed to perform well. Harsh Thaker (32) and Aaron Johnson (20) were the top scorers. Nepal captain Poudel took four wickets to win the match against Canada. Rohit, who bowled 8.5 overs, bowled two maidens and gave away 33 runs. Lalit Rajbanshi took two wickets.
Arif Sheikh scored 38 runs in 50 balls with four fours. Sompal Kami scored 27 runs, Kushal Malla 20 runs, Bhim Sarki 17 runs and Pawan Sarraf 15 runs. Apart from this, opener Asif Sheikh and captain Poudel scored eight runs each. Rijan Dhakal returned to the pavilion for four runs while Surya Tamang added 10 runs.
Canada’s Uday Bhagwan took three wickets. Uday, who bowled eight overs, bowled a maiden and gave away 40 runs. Saad Bin Zafar took two wickets while Ishwarjot Sohi, Shahid Ahmadzai and Harsh Thaker took one wicket each.Nepal has invited Canada for a three-match ODI series at home ahead of the ICC World Cup Cricket League-2 series. Nepal will now play the second match of the series on Saturday and the third match of the series on Monday.
