Kathmandu, July 22: The Nepali Janata Dal is holding its Sixth General Convention on August 17, 18 and 19 in Kathmandu. The party’s National Chairman Hari Charan Saha said that the party’s elected delegates from all seven provinces and districts will attend the General Convention. The delegates would be picked up within August 15.
According to party Chair Saha, the Sixth General Convention will hold extensive discussions on the party policy, ideology, statute as well as on the contemporary political, economic and social topics. He added that the General Convention will determine the party’s policy along with revisions following discussions.
Stating that political instability is seen in the country due to the frequent change of governments, he said the Nepali Janata Dal claimed this trend would inhibit the economic prosperity,
promotion of good governance and corruption control. The party stressed on the need of adopting the appropriate policy for achieving high economic growth by activating the economy. The party Chair Saha called on the government to push for the concept of the East-West Mega Water Management Multipurpose Project for boosting agriculture production.
The Nepali Janata Dal has also emphasized on the need of amending the Constitution so as to make it acceptable to all and to resolve all types of problems seen in the country at present. Party Chair Saha advocated for establishing a fully-proportional electoral system instead of the direct election system through constitution amendment.
The Nepali Janata Dal also proposed slashing the number of lawmakers in the Federal House of Representatives and the Province Assembly and retaining 165 seats in the former and a total 230 seats including all Province Assemblies.
Similarly, the party called for making constitutional provisions for directly electing the Prime Minister of the federal government and the Province Chief Ministers for attaining political stability, development construction and good governance.
