Tanahu, Aug 23: Tanahu: At least 14 people were killed when an Indian bus plunged into the Marsyangdi River from Aina Pahara in Abukhaireni of Tanahun district.
Armed Police Force Joint Spokesperson and DSP Shailendra Thapa said that 14 bodies have been pulled out of the spot till 1 PM. 11 persons are still missing according to police source .
As many as 16 injured persons were rescued from the spot, said Joint Spokesperson of Armed Police Force Thapa. The bus (UP 53 FT 7623) en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara plunged into the Marsyangdi River at Ainapahara in Tanahun on Friday morning. The bus is stuck on the bank of the river.
According to the police, there were heavy casualties in the bus accident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Tanahun, Deepak Kumar Raya, said that the number of dead and injured may increase as the rescue operation is underway. According to him, there were 43 people in the bus, including the driver and helper.
A team of 45 people including 10 divers under the command of SSP Madhav Poudel from Armed Police Force Nepal Disaster Management Training School and 35 from Manakamana Battalion Bhanu Tanahun have been mobilized for the rescue operation.
As the site is steep and difficult, the rescuer reached the place where the bus was located with the help of rope. The bus fell into the river from Aina Pahara at Aanbukhaireni rural municipality-2 some moments back.
The bus (UP 53 FT 7623) heading towards Kathmandu from Pokhara fell into the river, said Deputy Superintendent of Police in Tanahu, Deepak Kumar Raya. Indian tourists were travelling in the bus, he added.
