Kathmandu, Aug. 25: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed different agencies to work effectively to curb corruption and control smuggling.
The PM made such a directive to the top-ranking officials of the Department of Revenue Investigation, Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Public Procurement Monitoring Office, National Vigilance Centre, Nepal Trust, National Investigation Department, and other agencies on Sunday at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers asking them to work effectively to control smuggling and misuse of state property, the PM’s Secretariat said.
At an annual review meeting, PM Oli reminded the officials of the smuggling of gold from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in the past and cautioned that a huge amount of revenue was lost and ill practices thrived as concerned agencies were not responsible.
“Now, such activities are not acceptable. Unabated smuggling is not possible,” PM Oli directed the officials to discharge their duties. The PM asked the officials to safeguard the nation from being ruined, and promote hope and confidence.
Oli also made it clear that these agencies were brought under the PMO expecting their better performance.
Likewise, the PM asked the officials to work and create environment to job opportunities to the youths within the country.
“Good governance and development is needed along with democratic norms and values,” according to the PM.
Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor Dr Yubraj Khatiwada, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari, Chief Secretary Liladevi Gadtaula and government secretaries were present at the meeting.
