Lumbini, Aug 27: The Ranaujireshwori Bhagawati rath jatra, a chariot procession celebrating the goddess, is being held in Palpa today.
The jatra is organized every year on a day after the Krishna Janmastami in commemoration of Nepal’s victory in the Anglo-Nepal war at Tansen.
President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to grace the chariot procession and the 205th victory rally, according to Chief District Officer in Palpa, Anand Kafle. Even the chariot procession of Amannarayan is conducted today itself.
The chariot of the Amannarayan will be taken to street before the chariot of the Bhagawati. On this occasion, the Lumbini Province government has given a holiday in Palpa district today.
The Nepali warriors had defeated the British at Tansen war, and the jatra is held every year in memory of the victory day.
Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa had prepared the chariot in 1876BS, which is believed to be in use till present for the celebration. It is the biggest festival and jatra observed in Palpa district.
Giving a message on this occasion, Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Chet Narayan Acharya, said the historic and cultural heritages need preservation. They can be linked to tourism circuit.
He wished the Ranaujireshwori jatra would help foster harmony among people from diverse culture and castes.
