1.8 million expected to leave Valley for Dashain

Kathmandu, Sept.25: It is estimated that around 1.5 million to 1.8 million people will leave the Kathmandu Valley on Dashain this year.

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said that it is estimated that around 1.8 million people will leave Kathmandu this year on Dashain alone, which is more than last year. Last year, about 1.3 million left the valley to celebrate Dashain in their hometown.

5,000 to 6,000 public vehicles have been managed for the purpose. The government decided to open the advance booking of bus tickets from September 28.

A spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Bishwaraj Khadka, said that a discussion on how to make the management more effective bearing in mind about the possibility of accidents due to increased commuters on the road is underway.

He said, “Poor quality of roads, excessive number of vehicles, overcrowded vehicles and high-speed driving are considered the main reasons behind the road accidents in the country.”

According to Khadka, an integrated security plan is being formulated in coordination with all three districts of the valley to reduce the number of road accidents during the festive season.
