NIC insists on accurate information flow from public entities during disasters

Kathmandu, Oct 3: The National Information Commission (NIC) has called on public entities to disseminate accurate information during disasters like flooding and landslides. The NIC called attention to this today while unveiling the decisions of its meeting on Wednesday.

Similarly, the meeting has directed public entities under the federal, province and local governments to establish a system for regularly updating the media on their responses to the relief and treatment of survivors.

Likewise, it wants the three-tier government to share details regarding the relief materials provided, the current stock of such materials, and further procurement plans through various media channels. Moreover, it has stressed the need to digitally archive such information.

The meeting decided to enhance the activities of the central coordination unit, the implementation monitoring unit, the province monitoring unit, and district monitoring unit established in accordance with the Right to Information Act Monitoring Guidelines-2076 BS. It has called for the publication of monitoring reports and the submission of the documents to the Commission.

Furthermore, the meeting has requested the government to ensure the safety of media workers and RTI activists who are responsible for gathering and disseminating information from public entities.
