Kathmandu: Nepal suffered a 37-run loss to the US in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series match on Saturday in Dallas, US.
Batting first, the US set a challenging total of 281-8 in their 50 overs. Captain Monank Patel led with a composed 67 off 81 balls, supported by Saiteja Mukkamalla’s 75 off 87, building a solid foundation. Late in the innings, Harmeet Singh added crucial runs, smashing 59 off 44 balls to push the total past 280.
For Nepal, Gulsan Jha was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami took two each.
In response, Nepal’s chase started poorly with Aasif Sheikh falling in the second over. Anil Sah steadied the innings with 52 off 80 balls, while Kushal Bhurtel’s 29 took Nepal to 106-2 by the 27th over. However, Sah’s dismissal sparked a collapse, including the quick departure of captain Rohit Paudel for just 1.
Sompal Kami injected late energy with a brisk 46 off 27 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes, but his efforts couldn’t bridge the gap as Nepal were bowled out for 244 in 49.5 overs.
US bowlers were disciplined, with Saurabh Netravalkar taking 4-47, supported by Jasdeep Singh, Shadley van Schalkwyk, and Nosthush Kenjige, who each played a role in restricting Nepal’s chase.
