Kathmandu, 4 December: Kathmandu Gurkhaz has won the first match in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Kathmandu defeated Karnali Yaks, captained by Sompal Kami, by 3 wickets to clinch their first win.
Kathmandu achieved the target of 150 runs set by Karnali by losing 7 wickets in 3 balls. Sumit Maharjan scored an unbeaten 40 runs for Kathmandu. He hit 3 fours and 1 six in 37 balls. Similarly, Gerard Erasmus scored 38 and captain Karan KC scored 28 runs.
Earlier, Karnali, invited to bat after losing the toss at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, scored 149 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Kathmandu, who responded, achieved the target in 19.3 overs.
Karnali’s Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs not out. Dhawan hit 5 sixes and 4 fours in 51 balls while scoring his first half-century of the tournament. Kathmandu’s Gerhard Erasmus took 2 wickets.
Earlier, Karnali lost to Janakpur Bolts in the first match, while Kathmandu lost to Chitwan Rhinos. Biratnagar Kings and Lumbini Lions are playing in the second match of the NPL today at 1 PM. Biratnagar has lost in both the previous two matches, while this is Lumbini’s first match.
