Flights affected due to adverse weather

Kathmandu, 5 Jan: Kathmandu, 5 Jan:Flight schedules across the country, particularly to destinations in the Tarai, were affected today due to adverse weather conditions. Flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to various destinations have been disrupted due to low visibility.

Although Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flights are being operated at Tribhuvan International Airport, most airports outside Kathmandu have not been able to operate in the morning. According to airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, flights have not been operated at airports outside Kathmandu except Bhadrapur, Bharatpur, Pokhara and Surkhet.

Both domestic and international flights are being operated regularly at Kathmandu Airport. It is reported that flights have not been operated at some airports that have direct flights from Kathmandu to the domestic side. Buddha Air spokesperson Dipendra Kumar Karna said that although flights to Bhadrapur, Bharatpur, Pokhara and Surkhet have been opened, flights have not been operated at other airports due to low visibility. He said that the airports are opening late due to thick fog in the Terai region.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has stated that most parts of the country are partially to generally cloudy due to the partial effect of the western low-pressure system. According to the division’s meteorologist Binu Maharjan, it is currently generally cloudy in the eastern regions of Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati and Madhes provinces, while it is partially cloudy in Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces. “Comparatively, it will be more cloudy tomorrow than today and there is a possibility of rain,” said meteorologist Maharjan. “There is a possibility of light rain in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.” He said that since the western low-pressure system will be more influential on Monday and Tuesday, there is a possibility of cloudiness and rain.
