Kathmandu, March 3: President Ramchandra Paudel acknowledged the importance of moral values, righteousness and yoga as the backbone of a civilized society. Addressing an award distribution ceremony organized by the Sarvodaya Sewashram in Kathmandu on Monday, President Paudel reiterated that those qualities were essential for building a stable, prosperous and equitable society. “When a society upholds and reveres ethics, discipline and honesty, it strengthens the foundation of peace, co-existence and positive transformation,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of a deep connection between human and nature, the Head of the State claimed that a positive transformation could be brought in society through yoga education, healthy lifestyle and humanitarian services. He commended the ‘exemplary’ works of the Sarvodaya Sewashram in Lamjung for over two decades including instituting two awards namely Narakant Yoga National Award and Bhairav Righteousness National Award.
The awards are named after late Narakant Adhikari, a former bureaucrat from Duradanda in Lamjung district known for his integrity and honesty and late Bhairav Prasad Upadhyay, a former Supreme Court Justice from Tanahu district, renowned for his competency and honesty in judicial administration.These awards, according to President Paudel, were truly a fitting tribute to the duos’ remarkable contributions in their respective fields.
Prof Dr Upadhyay and Regmi feted
On the occasion, President Paudel awarded Prof Dr Bidhyanath Upadhyay with Narakant Yoga National Award and former Chief Justice and former Chairperson of the Council of Ministers Khilaraj Regmi with Bhairav Righteousness National Award.
Prof Dr Upadhyay was feted in recognition of his ‘incomparable’ contributions in the sector of education, yoga and spirituality while Regmi was recognized for his ‘pivotal’ role in ensuring stability to the country during critical transitional period.
President Paudel presented both awardees with a cash amount of Rs 100,000 and a certificate of appreciation. In their remarks, both awardees expressed their concern over declining moral values, virtues and right conduct in the society lately.
They, thus, called for reforms in the mode of imparting moral education so as to foster discipline and ethics among people. Regmi announced that he would donate the cash prize to reward diligent and disciplined students in his hometown while Upadhyay underscored collective efforts to promote yoga practice and moral conduct.
On the occasion, Krishnaraj Oliya, Chairperson of Sarvodaya Sewashram, shared that the organization had been actively working to promote yoga education, human health, social service and moral values.(RSS)
