Taplejung, Apr.1: Two people died while dousing a forest fire in Taplejung. Two people died in separate fire incidents within a span of two weeks. According to the police, a young man died in Thinglabu, Meringden Rural Municipality-1, Taplejung, and an elderly man died in Phulbari, Aathrai Triveni Rural Municipality -2, in the district.
Bhupendra Lwagun, aged 27, of Thumbedin, Pathivara Yangwarak Rural Municipality-6, died while trying to extinguish a fire that broke out on the Lungja steep in Thinglabu. “While extinguishing the fire, Lwagun was suddenly caught in flames and died of burns,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabi Rawal, the chief of Taplejung Police.
According to Rawal, 75-year-old Surendra Tamang of Nighuradin, Aathrai Tribeni, Taplejung, died while trying to put out the fire.The District Police Office has informed that Tamang died after falling while trying to escape after being hit by a fire flame.
