Air pollution lessens in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu, April 4 : The level of air pollution has reduced with increase in the wind speed. With the rise in wind speed, the scale of air pollution has also decreased today. Kathmandu Valley, which was listed as the world’s most-polluted city for the past few days, has been listed at number seven today.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, air pollution in Kathmandu Valley reached 348 AQI becoming the world’s most-polluted city on Thursday afternoon.At the time of filing this report, the pollution has come down to 147 AQI today.

According to the air quality index approved by the Government of Nepal, 0-50 AQI is considered good, 51-100 AQI is moderate, 101-150 AQI is unhealthy for vulnerable groups in terms of health, 151-200 AQI is unhealthy, 201-300 AQI is very unhealthy and above 301 AQI is hazardous.

Director General of the Department of Environment, Ministry of Forests and Environment, Gyan Raj Subedi, said that the pollution level has come down from the world’s most-polluted city to the seventh position due to the increase in wind speed today.

“The Department has given priority to increasing public awareness extensively to reduce pollution. Similarly, coordination between the Department of Environment and other concerned agencies is necessary,” he added.
