Teachers’protest in Kathmandu enters 29th day

Kathmandu: The ongoing protest by teachers in Kathmandu, led by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, is set to continue today as negotiations with the government failed to reach a conclusion.

Federation President Laxmi Kishore Subedi called on teachers and school staff to gather at Maitighar Mandala at 11 am, highlighting that protests must be intensified to achieve their demands. “The state does not want to give. Nothing can be achieved without protest,” he said.

Despite extensive discussions at the Ministry of Education on Monday night, no agreement was reached. Education Minister Raghuji Pant described the talks as moving in a “positive direction,” but Federation President Subedi noted that while some progress was made, many key issues remain unresolved.

The teachers’ protest, which began on April 2, has continued for over a month, with demonstrations centered in Kathmandu.
