Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) governor has not been delayed due to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.Speaking at a policy dialogue on “Budget Priorities in the Current Economic Context” organized by the party’s Economic Policy and Planning Department at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa today, Deuba addressed the ongoing delay.
“We are in an alliance with KP Oli, and he has not caused any issues within the coalition,” said Deuba.“The matter of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor is not something he raised as a problem. The delay is due to internal issues within the Nepal Rastra Bank. The candidate we recommended is facing some challenges, but we will resolve it. PM Oli supports giving the governorship to the Congress, and there is no disagreement on that.”
Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, emphasized that the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML are in agreement on the appointment and that the ruling coalition remains stable. His comments come amid growing concern over the vacancy at the central bank , and speculation that tensions within the ruling alliance may be holding up the appointment. Deuba’s remarks appear to reaffirm unity within the coalition and dismiss rumors of discord.
