All infrastructure sector projects have been re-prioritized, reiterates PM Oli

Kathmandu, May 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government’s policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2025-26 are neither old nor the same and that all projects in the infrastructure sector have been re-prioritised.

Responding to the questions raised during the discussion on the government’s policies and programmes at Sunday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he reiterated that the nation cannot move ahead without changing the modality of development and construction, the slow pace, and the ‘work in progress’ culture. He emphasised that we need to be clear about where to invest our limited resources and what results we aim to achieve from them.

“Therefore, the proposal to change the modality, pace, and culture of development to address the shortcomings seen in the course of development in these policies and programmes is new. The commitment to implement this in practice is also new. There should be no situation where the initiated projects are stalled,” the Prime Minister said.

He maintained that under the declared policy to complete the assigned works, the policy of reviewing the national pride projects, completing the ongoing projects in the fiscal year 2025-26, and determining the timeline to finish them within the current term of the House of Representatives is new.

PM Oli stated that the policy to develop a ‘business plan’ that includes the interests of investors and creditors such as ‘cash flow, risk mitigation, and legal security’ and evaluation of ‘feasibility, risks, and returns’ while creating new projects for infrastructure development, before the expression of interest and commitment by stakeholders of the projects is also new.

The Prime Minister informed the parliamentarians that the policy proposed by the government agencies aims to focus on the development of entrepreneurship, production, productivity, and job creation, and to commercialise agriculture and build infrastructure through cooperation, coordination, and collaboration among the three levels of government.

Prime Minister Oli further said that a new roadmap for the National Educational Reform Programme would be prepared and the policies would be proposed to make education accessible, of quality, and life-oriented.

He said that the policy of integrating all public hospitals into a unified online service and linking all health-related assistance and facility programmes to a unified health insurance system will make the restructured health insurance scheme sustainable. (RSS)
