Kathmandu: The central Secretariat meeting of the ruling CPN-UML is being held today at 2 p.m. at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur. This is the first UML meeting convened amid allegations implicating Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in an extortion scheme involving individuals traveling on visit visas through Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
There is growing interest in whether the UML leadership will address the controversy, especially as voices within the Nepali Congress (NC) are calling for Lekhak’s resignation on moral grounds.
Speaking to the media at Biratnagar Airport on Saturday, Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala stated that it would be appropriate for the Home Minister to step down.
UML leaders have indicated that today’s meeting will focus on current political developments and government affairs, including the allegations against Lekhak.
