Kathmandu: Riding high on confidence after a sensational one-wicket win against hosts Scotland, Nepal will take on the Netherlands today in their second match of the ICC World Cup League-2 tri-nation series. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:45 PM Nepali time.
This tri-series features Nepal, Scotland, and the Netherlands, with Nepal aiming to strengthen their position in the League-2 standings. Returning to the longer format after a gap of seven matches, Nepal is under pressure to secure a win to remain in contention for a spot in the World Cup global qualifiers.
The top four teams in League-2 advance to the global qualifiers, while the bottom four move to the playoff round. Currently, Nepal sits seventh with 8 points from 13 matches. The Netherlands are second with 26 points from 20 matches, while Scotland is fourth with 20 points from 17 games. The USA leads the table with 28 points from 20 matches, followed by Oman (24), Canada (20 from 20), Namibia (14 from 20), and UAE at the bottom with 6 points from 16 matches.
Nepal will face Scotland again on Sunday and the Netherlands next Tuesday before the series shifts to a T20 format among the three teams. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has named Rohit Kumar Poudel as captain and Dipendra Singh Airee as vice-captain for this series.
The squad includes Kushal Bhurtel, Arif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Gulshan Kumar Jha, Asif Sheikh, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bhim Sarki, Bashir Ahmed, Nandan Yadav, and Rijan Dhakal. Stuart Law continues as head coach, while South African Nick Pothas has been appointed consultant coach. Gyanendra Malla serves as the assistant coach.
