Nepal women’s football drops to 100th in FIFA rankings

Kathmandu – The Nepal women’s national football team has slipped one place to 100th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, released by the sport’s international governing body.

Previously sitting at 99th, Nepal’s slight decline of 0.12 points has pushed them down to the 100th position globally. Within the Asian region, Nepal is now ranked 20th among women’s national teams.

Earlier this year, Nepal enjoyed a rise in the rankings following a strong showing in a four-nation tournament held at home in February. The team earned victories over Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan, drew once with Myanmar, and narrowly lost to the same side in the final — results that helped boost their global standing at the time.

However, recent back-to-back losses in friendly matches against Thailand appear to have had a negative impact, contributing to the slight drop in their ranking.

At the international level, the United States continues to lead the FIFA Women’s Rankings, with Spain and Germany in second and third place, respectively. Brazil has climbed into fourth, displacing England, which now sits fifth. Japan, the top-ranked Asian team, has fallen two spots to seventh overall.

Meanwhile, in the men’s rankings, Nepal holds the 175th position globally.
