GEFONT’s Vice-President Gautam passes away

Bhairahawa, Oct. 30: Kamal Gautam, Vice-President of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), passed away after collapsing in the middle of a sit-in protest against power cuts affecting 13 industries in Rupandehi.

According to Netra Prasad Acharya, President of the Siddhartha Industry and Commerce Association, Gautam suddenly fainted while addressing the program and was immediately rushed to Crimson Hospital in Manigram, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Just a day earlier, during a meeting at the Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gautam had expressed strong determination to launch an institutional movement against the ongoing issues.

While addressing the protest on Wednesday, Gautam delivered an impassioned speech, accusing the government of entrapping industries and calling on workers to unite and resist the injustice. He had criticized the authorities for burdening industrialists, pointing out that despite paying their electricity bills regularly every month, they were suddenly charged for four months at once.
