Kathmandu: The Nepal Premier League (NPL) serves up a crucial contest this afternoon as the Lumbini Lions take on the Kathmandu Gurkhas in Kirtipur. Kathmandu, captained by Karan KC, will be looking to steady their campaign, while Rohit Kumar Paudel’s Lumbini side aims to reclaim momentum after an early stumble.
The match begins at 4 pm at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.Both teams come into the fixture with two points each. Kathmandu earned their points from three outings—opening with an impressive five-wicket win over Janakpur before back-to-back defeats against Sudurpaschim (29 runs) and Biratnagar (five wickets).
Lumbini, on the other hand, started strong with a six-wicket victory over Chitwan but faced a heavy nine-wicket loss to Karnali in their next match.
With Kathmandu sitting third and Lumbini fourth on the table, today’s clash is vital for both as they look to rebound.The NPL’s second edition features eight franchises: Janakpur Bolts, Sudurpaschim Royals, Karnali Yaks, Pokhara Avengers, Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Kathmandu Gurkhas, and Lumbini Lions.
At the top of the standings, undefeated Sudurpaschim and Biratnagar lead with six points apiece, Sudurpaschim edging ahead on net run rate. Kathmandu, Lumbini, Chitwan, and Karnali follow with two points each, while Janakpur and Pokhara are still seeking their first win after two matches.
